At least 14 lifeless, two lacking as landslides hit Indonesia’s Sulawesi island


At least 19 individuals have been discovered lifeless and two extra are lacking after a landslide in central Indonesia, native authorities mentioned on Sunday.

The lifeless and two survivors have been evacuated from two landslide-hit villages in Tana Toraja regency, South Sulawesi province on Saturday night, mentioned native catastrophe company head Sulaiman Malia.

“There have been 19 fatalities, with 4 deaths in South Makale and 15 others in Makale villages,” Mr. Malia advised AFP on Sunday.

“Currently, we are still searching for other victims,” he mentioned, including that there are nonetheless two people reported lacking, presumably buried beneath the landslide particles.

Tana Toraja and its surrounding areas have been “continuously hit by heavy rainfall, especially over the past week, with hardly any stop”, Mr. Malia added.
