China urges U.S. to play ‘constructive position’ in Middle East

China urged the United States to play “a constructive role” within the Middle East on April 12 after its high diplomat Wang Yi spoke along with his U.S. counterpart Antony Blinken over the cellphone.

Mr. Blinken used the decision to ask Beijing to make use of its affect to dissuade Iran from putting Israel, the State Department stated. Concerns of retaliation by Tehran have grown after an Israeli strike on April 1 levelled an Iranian diplomatic constructing in Damascus.

On Friday, China confirmed the decision had taken place, saying Mr. Wang “expressed China’s strong condemnation of the attack” whereas emphasising the “inviolable” proper to safety of diplomatic establishments and the necessity to respect the sovereignty of Iran and Syria.

“China will continue to play a constructive role in the resolution of the Middle East issue… and contribute to cooling down the situation,” international ministry spokeswoman Mao Ning added.

“The United States side in particular should play a constructive role.”

Iran’s clerical management has vowed to strike again after the assault, which killed seven members of the Islamic Republic’s elite Revolutionary Guards, together with two generals.

The United States has repeatedly made public appeals for China to do extra to deal with the disaster, together with by stress on Iran, which helps Hamas.

Beijing in flip has criticised the United States as biased towards Israel.

It was unclear if Mr. Wang and Mr. Blinken had mentioned issues apart from the battle.

“I believe that the foreign ministers of the two countries should have exchanged views on other issues of common interest, but I do not have specific information,” stated Ms. Mao.
