Earthquake hits Indonesia on April 9, no tsunami alert: USGS


A magnitude-6.6 earthquake hit Indonesia’s jap area on April 9, the United States Geological Survey mentioned, with no tsunami warning issued.

The quake struck off Halmahera island in North Maluku province at 0948 GMT at a depth of about 35 kilometres (22 miles), the USGS mentioned.

There had been no fast stories of injury or accidents after the earthquake.

The Pacific Tsunami Warning Centre mentioned there was “no tsunami threat” from the quake within the Molucca Sea.

But Indonesia’s geophysics company (BMKG) suggested residents in close by areas of potential aftershocks.
